FROM A WHISPER TO A SCREAM (1987)

From a Whisper to a Scream was released under the alternate title The Offspring on September 4, 1987. Vincent Price stars as the town historian of Oldfield, a cursed Tennessee town that has seen all kinds of horrors in its history, and we get to see several of them in anthology form.

It was filmed in 1985 and 1986 in and around Dalton, GA, though some scenes like the old Victorian mansion that Vincent Price’s character lives in were filmed in California.

This was the closest match I could find. The information about it being filmed on Henry Owen Road comes from the Blu-Ray extras. It also mentions that the trailer was on nearby Carbondale Road, though I wasn’t able to match up an exact location for that.

This is the Old Summerour Cemetery, which is just past Amazing Grace Baptist Church. It is down an unpaved road in the middle of a field.

The final segment, ‘Four Soldiers’, was filmed at the Tunnel Hill Heritage Center & Museum in Tunnel Hill, GA. It includes the Clisby Austin House and the Western & Atlantic Railroad Tunnel, as well as a museum. There are both guided tours and self-guided tours.

There are two tunnels right next to each other, one of which is part of the history center and can be walked through. The other one is still an active railroad tunnel. I was told they filmed in the one you can tour, but I remain unsure/skeptical. The walls seem different which was the main thing for me. There are also railroad tracks visible in the movie, which leads me to believe it may have actually been the other tunnel. That one is not really visible or able to be photographed now.

The Clisby Austin house dates to 1848 and was used as a Confederate hospital during the Civil War.
