Firestarter was released on May 11, 1984. It is based on the 1980 novel of the same name by Stephen King. A young girl with pyrokinetic powers and her father are pursued by government agents. It was filmed in North Carolina around Wilmington.
Many of the locations from Firestarter have been demolished or are not accessible to the public. The Manders farmhouse has been torn down, as has the motel used in the movie. The plantation used as The Shop is not open to visitors. Nevertheless, I still got everything I could around Wilmington and it turned out decent!
I also did some other Stephen King movies around Wilmington as well: The Night Flier, Silver Bullet, Maximum Overdrive, and Cat’s Eye.
