The Black Phone premiered at Fantastic Fest on September 25, 2021 and was released to theaters on June 24, 2022. It is based on the 2004 short story of the same name by Joe Hill. A boy named Finney Blake is kidnapped by The Grabber, and receives phone calls from past victims. It was filmed in North Carolina, around Wilmington.
I went to Wilmington for a Stephen King-themed trip but decided that The Black Phone was also appropriate since it was written by his son. Some of the locations are very close to some King locations as well. Stephen King movies filmed in the area include Cat’s Eye, The Night Flier, Silver Bullet, Maximum Overdrive, and Firestarter.
