The Crazies was released on February 26, 2010. It’s a remake of George Romero’s 1973 movie about a small town’s water supply becoming poisoned by a toxin that turns the residents into homicidal maniacs.
It is set in the fictional town of Ogden Marsh, Iowa. The majority of the locations are in Iowa, but a few were filmed in Georgia as well. Namely the interior of the car wash, the high school, and the truck stop. There aren’t many great shots of the high school or the interior car wash, so the only one I have visited is the truck stop.
I first visited in September of 2019, and it appeared virtually identical to how it was shown on screen. The truck stop had been closed for years, but there was a truck repair shop still operating out of the building so it was accessible for photos.
I visited again in July of 2021 and it still appeared much the same, although the gas pumps had been removed by that time. My main batch of photos comes from this visit, as I didn’t have screenshots when I first visited in 2019.
I made one more stop in November of 2023 and the location had been completely fenced off. I received word in 2025 that it had been demolished, and I confirmed myself looking at the spot on Google Maps.
