SLEEPAWAY CAMP II: UNHAPPY CAMPERS (1988)

While the first ‘Sleepaway Camp’ filmed in New York, 2 and 3 both came to Georgia for filming. I was super excited and then immediately disappointed when I found this out, because it also said that the camp was torn down shortly after filming. After a little more research, I figured out that that wasn’t exactly accurate. While the camp was shut down and the main lodge building was torn down after filming, the swimming pool and several of the other buildings were still there.

I recruited one of my friends to accompany me, and we set out to find Camp Rolling Hills. The land it’s on is privately owned, but it was for sale at the time of my visit so we called the number on the sign and got permission to in. We couldn’t get the gate open, so I left my car by the road and we hiked in. It’s a good walk to get to the camp area, and it was so overgrown we couldn’t even see a lot of it. The bathroom building was/is still standing, though I wasn’t able to find the path to it in the overgrowth, so mainly I only got pictures of the pool area and the former lodge building. I have included a few other pictures just to show what it looks like.

The land has been sold since my visit, but I would still love to go back and get some better pictures. It is leased to a hunting club, so PLEASE exercise caution if you choose to visit here, and do your best to get permission as well since it is privately owned. Also, it was literally CRAWLING with snakes, especially around the pool. I mean, you could simply gaze around and see multiple snakes slithering into the overgrowth. I don’t know what I was thinking.
