Tim Burton’s Big Fish was released on December 10, 2003. It was filmed mostly in Alabama, with the tiny town of Spectre being a custom-built set on Jackson Lake Island just outside of Montgomery.
Today, much of the set still remains, and Jackson Lake Island is open to visitors as a park and campground. Some of the facades have been torn down, but enough is still there for it to be recognizable Spectre! They even have two of the fake trees from the Dark Forest, and the columns from Jenny’s house still standing.
This set was later reused in the horror movie Dead Birds (2004).
