Hatchet premiered in 2006 and was released to theaters on September 7, 2007. A DVD release followed on December 18, 2007, which is when I finally got to see it! I found it to be a fun movie, though if I’m being totally honest, I’ve always preferred Hatchet 2, which I thought was more interesting with the expanded backstory on Victor Crowley.
Despite being set in New Orleans and the nearby swamps, the swamp scenes, including Victor Crowley’s house, were all filmed on sets in California. That only leaves the few scenes at the beginning to get locations for in New Orleans, so I tried my best! I was quite proud of recreating the bus tour’s journey out of the city and towards Honey Island Swamp.
