Sleepaway Camp was released on November 18, 1983. It was filmed in upstate New York. Most of the movie takes place at Camp Arawak, which was filmed at the former Camp Algonquin (also known as Camp Argyle). The camp was open from 1927 until the mid-1980s. It is now private property and is not open to the public.
I was able to attend an On Set Cinema event there in August of 2024 and got some comparison pictures of the former camp. Unfortunately all of the cabins and other camp buildings have been torn down. The basketball/tennis courts are still there, and the beach and houses around the lake are still recognizable.

We paddled across Summit Lake to get these shots. If you aren’t able to access the camp, try driving over to Miller Road and you can at least get a view of the camp that matches the various wide shots in the movie.
