Luck was not on my side when it came to Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. For starters, many of the locations in this movie are simply no longer there. Texas Battle Land, the great abandoned amusement park setting, has been gone since shortly after the movie was filmed and is now an RV park I believe. The radio station exterior is gone. By the time of my visit, the highway overpass where Lefty is introduced had been completely redone and was no longer recognizable. And to top it off, the bridge from the opening, which was just a few miles from a where I was staying, was closed to pedestrians for construction work.
Nevertheless, I did manage to stop by the Cut Rite Chainsaw Store, which is now a bar, and I also got to see some of the country roads that the opening was filmed on. I am also including a few pictures of the bridge, though I wasn’t able to get any matching shots.
UPDATE
I revisited some of these locations in October of 2024. Unfortunately the bridge from the opening is STILL closed to pedestrians, but I got some pictures anyway and was able to see some more of the driving scenes, namely when Drayton pulls over after hearing the tape of the opening murders played on the radio. Besides those locations and the Cut-Rite Chain Saws store, which still operates as the Mean-Eyed Cat Bar, most of this movie’s locations are unfortunately gone or completely unrecognizable.
