Dead Silence was released on March 16, 2007. James Wan’s second movie after Saw, it stars Ryan Kwanten as Jamie Ashen, who finds himself returning to his hometown to investigate the death of his wife. Naturally it involves a ghost and dozens of wonderfully creepy ventriloquist dummies.
I’ve always really loved Dead Silence. I grew up on Goosebumps, so ventriloquist dummies naturally appeal to me thanks to Slappy, and Dead Silence definitely delivers on that front. It also has a really ridiculous, memorable twist that has always stood out.
It was filmed in Ontario, Canada. Some locations are in Toronto, but the town of Raven’s Fair was portrayed by Elora, Ontario. The quarry where the set where the Grand Guignol theatre was built is also in Elora, but it was closed for the season so unfortunately I couldn’t get any pictures there.

This is the Hav A Nap Motel. I thought this was an interesting one – it was digitally made to look like it’s right by the Raven’s Fair bridge in Elora, but it’s over 80 miles away in Scarborough, Ontario.
